Lovely morning. The other day in an English lesson, we were all talking about films. There were various opinions about their favourite films and scenes from films, but one high school student said. ”I want to do something else during the two hours I have to watch the film. I don’t want to waste time watching films.” In a way, I thought that was certainly true and has a valid point. The two hours in a 24-hour day are certainly a big part of it. If you think of it as two hours between your waking hours, you can see how valuable it is. I was happy that everyone in the class was amused by this new opinion and that there was a place where various free opinions could be exchanged and recognised.
For me, cinema is a wonderful art form that allows me to learn about an unfamiliar world in just two hours. We can learn a lot from films. One of the reasons I wanted to learn English was because I wanted to understand the language spoken by people in other countries in films first hand, and from there I wanted to go abroad and visit different places. In the space of two hours, we can have experiences that we could never have in our own lives alone. We could naturally feel that there are many different people, many different cultures, many different customs, many different ways of thinking, many different histories on this planet, we could learn about the wonders and fears of the outer space, we could see many different beautiful landscapes, sometimes we could see atrocious scenes, we could see delicious food, We can also encounter delicious food and set off on exciting adventures. Japanese films give you an idea of how people thought in that period, and samurai films give you a sense of how people lived in the past.
Of course, because it is a film, there are large parts that are deformed and so on, but, however, in those two hours we can experience things and feel many things that we could never have known on our own.
Of course, our life is overwhelmingly more than just the time we spend watching films. But watching a film can make us reflect on our own lives, make us appreciate the environment we have been given, or even create new goals. By putting ourselves in the shoes of someone else in the film, we can see the landscape we have been looking at from a different perspective. Watching films has definitely helped me to have different perspectives on things. I am grateful for what this two-hour journey into another world has brought to me, and I would like to continue meeting great films and listening to people talking about great films.
