How would you define happiness for you?

Lovely morning. How would you define happiness for you? What makes you happy may be different for each person, but while it may be the tangible things like big money or a successful career, happiness in your life may actually be made up of the little things. It could be the warmth of the morning sun when you wake up, the profile of your partner next to you, or the warm, chubby cheeks of a child you love. It could be a warm smile from someone you meet, the words of someone’s email, a hug from someone you love, or a sincere compliment. It could be a phrase in a novel you’ve just started reading, a scene in a TV drama, or a phrase in a piece of music that comes on in a café.

These are the little things that we may soon forget. But if we feel happy in each moment, and if we accumulate these feelings, we will be filled with happiness. And in order to feel this happiness, we need to keep improving our sensitivity. Just as you can’t see the reflection of something in a fogged mirror, you can’t see the beauty of something if the mirror in your heart is fogged.

Just as a beautiful water surface reflects a beautiful sky, beautiful mountains, trees and birds in flight, so the mirror of your heart, your senses, should always be polished so that you can always see the beautiful things. This may be cultivated by reading, listening, touching, tasting, smelling, feeling and thinking about what we see and feel in our daily lives. If we are happy with more things than we have, our days will be filled with happiness.
