Lovely morning.Every year when Halloween approaches we hold a Halloween party. All the teachers dressed up as something and the students were asked to come in fancy dress or costumes too. We improvised and rehearsed our English play in the morning to prepare for the real show in the afternoon. We set up booths and the children played games with the native teachers at each booth like a stamp rally and got stamps and sweets when they finished.
We made piñatas days in advance, filled them with candy and asked the children to break them with a stick. We also decorated the cupcakes with cream and cute Halloween marzipan and brought them home. At the end of the party everyone had their photo taken with a smile on their face. Every year many students and parents enjoyed the Halloween party.
However, last year when the pandemic started, the party was cancelled and this year it will be cancelled again. So now we are asking the children to make something related to Halloween in their regular lessons. I am always amazed by the children’s sensibility and imagination and it fills my heart with happiness when I see their happy smiles. Although we use the same materials, each child’s work is completely different depending on what they use and how they colour and cut it out. However, each one shows the children’s feelings and thoughts at the time and sharing them with the class makes their hearts overflow with joy.
We hope that one day we will be able to have a big Halloween party again, but we don’t know when that day will be. As I look at the smiles on the children’s faces, I think about how important it is to try to enjoy the present moment. If we can enjoy whatever is in front of us, our hearts will be filled with happiness and we will be able to move forward no matter what the situation is, enjoying the moment.
