Lovely morning.Enjoying the present moment is said to be important, but simply enjoying it is not really being human. Like a small child who is curious about everything and asks questions about why and how things are happening, we instinctively find pleasure in having our own goals and objectives and working towards them.
It’s important to enjoy the present moment, because it’s the only moment we can control in the course of time, but if we don’t have goals, or if we do have goals but they don’t lead to the future we want, we will be swallowed up by the anxiety that surrounds us. This anxiety can lead to a negative spiral as we tend to vent our anxieties outwards as there is nothing to find within ourselves. It’s like plunging into darkness, because no one can predict what tomorrow will bring.
Therefore, it is crucial to find a dream in your mind and light a candle in your heart to keep you from wandering in the dark. And aiming for that light, and trying to get closer to it, is the greatest pleasure of a person who does not know what will happen every day. The best thing about challenging yourself to achieve your dream today is that you will be able to see how close you are to achieving it tomorrow. The more you enjoy each day’s challenge to the fullest, the more you will enjoy the future. Of course, challenges aren’t all fun and games.
But the hard challenges are far more fulfilling and enjoyable than wandering around today with nothing to aim for. By doing the things you need to do to reach your goal, you will be closer to it before you know it. In an interview, a gold medal-winning skateboarder said that five years ago, he thought the Olympics were far away, but the things he has been doing every day have led him to be here today. Maybe this is one of the answers to the question, what does it mean to enjoy the present moment?
