Lovely morning. As a teacher, I always feel that I need to be able to understand people’s emotions. I don’t think that just teaching what I think or what I should teach is enough to develop students’ skills. How can I make the most of the time I have with the students? I am always thinking about how I can improve my teaching by reading their eyes, facial expressions and body movements. I always try to think about how I can teach my students so that they can understand what I have learned.
This is why I am currently taking an introductory psychology course online. As I was learning about brain activity, the movie “The Matrix” came to mind. I looked up when it was made and it’s about 20 years old now. And there is a sequel coming out in December this year. I can only look forward to it. The film, which became world famous for its powerful and beautiful visuals, the acting of Keanu Reeves and other unique characters and the action, is about a world where humans are almost completely controlled by AI (artificial intelligence).
Humanity lives in a virtual space called the Matrix, but most people think it is “real”, without realising that it is “virtual”. As technology evolves, I feel that maybe we are getting closer to the world depicted in this film, but at the same time, I feel that what we think of as “reality” is actually something that our brains create or “imagine” in a “virtual” way.
What we “believe” we can’t do, we can do by working on it over and over again; if we feel happy, we can notice the happy things that are right in front of us; if we strongly desire to achieve a goal, we can gradually get closer to that dream. It’s all about how you think about something and how you interpret it that changes the world in which you live. In this film, the main character, Neo, makes a lot of mistakes and becomes able to do things that we would never believe. This is only possible because Neo has been thinking and acting towards the image of success over and over again in his brain.
There is a line in the film that says “What is “real”? How do you define “real”? If you’re talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then “real” is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain. ” Does that mean that reality is about what your brain interprets? Is it simply electrical signals? Or is it simply how you feel and interpret what is happening in front of your eyes?
So, if you are going through a difficult time, if there is a wall in front of you that you can’t seem to get over for a moment, maybe you can find a way to get over it, maybe that painful thing will turn into joy one day, depending on how you think about it. Or you may be able to break down that wall with a single blow of your fist. It may not be possible in an instant, of course, but hoping for the best will always move you in the right direction.
There are many emotions in human beings, and the richness of them is the richness of your heart, but it was, is and will always be necessary to interpret your feelings in a good way, not in an unpleasant way. It makes me want to look at the Matrix again. And I can’t wait to see the sequel in December. And I want to work hard at my job too. I want to study a lot for that. So many things on this autumn morning. Feels good today!
